P3 / P4 English

At the Primary 3 and Primary 4 level, there is a noticeable shift from learning to read to reading to learn. These two years are a crucial turning point in their language development and sets them up to build a strong foundation in English. If skills such as grammar, vocabulary and comprehension are not honed, students often find themselves struggling in Primary 5 and Primary 6, where the pace and difficulty increase sharply.

Teaching Methodology at OLL

(1)

Rigorous focus on grammatical accuracy

Our teachers emphasise developing mastery of grammatical rules through guided practices and assessments. Students analyse texts as a class and learn to identify grammatical patterns to recognise and correct errors.

(2)

Vocabulary Development

Students are taught meanings and pronunciation and are encouraged to identify nuances between word families, synonyms, and collocations. Through sentence creations and paragraph writing, students are also encouraged to integrate multiple words in context.

(3)

Building proficiency in writing

Students practice combining simple and complex sentences effectively using various writing prompts. They are also guided on how to review their own work and their peers' for clarity, grammar and structure.

(4)
Nurturing Learning Environment

At Our Learning Lodge, our teachers value different learning styles and perspectives. We recognise effort and progress, and understand that mistakes are just opportunities for learning.
